Nana Brooks is a real sweetheart. She is well respected and liked, many will do anything for her. Nana is very respectful of others, kind, smart, and witty. She can be stern when she needs to be. Nana Brooks is a formidable woman and she can be down right scary and intimidating if pushed. She's got a lot of spirit and isn't afraid to speak her mind, though she knows when to keep quiet and just observe. She is loyal to a fault and highly protective of those she holds dear. Mess with her granddaughter and find out just how formidable she can be.
History:
Jacqueline is Arabesque's grandmother. Mother to Ara's father, Zander Brooks who is now deceased along with Ara's mother, Adrianna. Nana and Ara have always been close and spent lots of time together. Summers were their favorite times. Ara usually spent the whole Summer with her Nana. When Ara was nearly ten years old Nana's house caught fire and burned completely down. Nana was forced to move to an apartment in an assisted living community, it wasn't all bad. Jacqueline liked the place because it felt like home not a nursing home or facility for the elderly. She had plenty of friendly neighbors and events to entertain her. Ara would go stay overnight from time to time but not too often. A one bedroom apartment didn't work out well for guests staying longer than two or three nights.
Nana told Ara stories about the phoenix bird, the fire bird. They were a favorite bedtime story every night when Ara stayed with her. The story told of a legendary bird that instead of dying only fizzled out into a pile of ashes only to be born again even brighter and better than before. It always gave Ara hope, Nana could see it in her granddaughter's eyes. It become something special between them. Nana calls Arabesque her Firebird.
Not long after the fire, Zander and Adrianna, were killed in a car accident after dropping Ara off for a visit with Jacqueline. Ara stayed with her grandmother for a few weeks while things were squared away with the funeral arrangements and "proper" housing could be found for the now orphaned girl. Nana Brooks hated it because she knew the best place would be with her but it wasn't allowed. Nana knew the aunt and uncle that was 'approved' for being able to take care of Ara were not actually fit for it. She did not like the way the two lived and was very worried about Arabesque.
When Ara became a teenager and was rescued from her aunt and uncle, Jacqueline finally got to see Ara again and find out what had happened to her. Hearing what happened to her pissed Nana off and made her want to rip into her Firebird's abusers, until she heard about the rescue and what had become of the abusers. Nana got to met at least two of the people in Ara's life that meant the world to Ara. Nana immediately liked Ara's best friend, Lea. So much so that she gave the girl a nickname too, Little Flower. She thought of Lea as a granddaughter too.
RP Sample:
Nana Brooks held out her arms to her granddaughter as she opened the door to her apartment, "Come here my Firebird. Oh how I've missed you." she said to Arabesque Brooks as she wrapped her in her embrace. As always Nana's apartment smelled of fresh baked cookies, this time Peanut Butter Cookies to be specific. Nana guided Ara into the apartment and closed the door.
"I am so glad you could get away from your busy schedule to come visit. I made your favorite cookies just incase you stopped by." she led her to the kitchen table and got her a glass of milk and a plate of cookies as Ara took a seat, smiling as she watched her Nana bustle around the kitchen.
"I always do my best to make time for you Nana."[/b]Ara said as Nana brought her milk and cookies over to the table, she reached for Nana's hand and brought it to her cheek, leaning her head into the soft, wrinkled hand, then brought it down to her stomach. "Nana, I am going to be a mom. It's twins. And I am scared." she looked up at Nana with a hint of tears, fear and yet joy in her eyes.
At first Nana gasped in shock and then a special kind of joy lit her eyes, "Is that handsome Jack the daddy?" at Ara's nod she pulled her chair closer and sat down, "Baby girl, everything is going to be okay. I'll be here for you. You can do this, a baby is God's gift to you. Now you just make sure that young man does right by you." she gives a determined nod, "He better make an honest woman of you and put a ring on that pretty little finger."
The two talked for hours about the babies, Ara's plans and how much life was going to change. Nana did her best to reassure Ara that she would be a good mother and that no matter what Ara and her babies would be protected, financially and physically. Nana wasn't stupid, she had seen the way the Dorsal family looked after their own, and the Brooks family was no different.
