In a remote area, probably somewhere near you, is a hidden place where the supernatural live, work and play. They take over the region around the area, but don't worry, they won't hurt you, unless you hurt them. Some may even work with you and you'd never know it. Some could even be your neighbor. That dog you hear howling occasionally, may not be a dog but a wolf shifter letting his or her pack or mate know something important. The seemingly odd hours that new neighbor across the street keeps could be a fox shifter out to explore their new surroundings, foxes are night creatures.
The lady that works at the aquarium and you see her on the beach or out in the water a lot.. she is most likely a mermaid. She does have that dolphin always around her when she's in the water. The weather forecaster with the interesting eyes, yeah she's an elemental demi-goddess. The mountains in the area, they host a number of shifters, from wolves, to big cats, to bears. And many creatures in between. Even a few Fae creatures are in the area, maybe that gardener that works in your neighborhood or the owner of the local fruit stand she literally grows her own fruit and vegetables and flowers, she's probably an earth element Fae.
The area around here is mountains, lakes, rivers, valleys, beaches and oceans. A wide variety of species mingle with the humans and they get along, for the most part. Some humans believe there are supernatural creatures among them, some do not, and some believe only in certain species (such as bears or wolves or mermaids), and some believe that they exist and want to be rid of them for good. Other's are terrified of them. What will those factions do? What will happen. Let's play and find out.
