It was easy enough to deal with being alone on a Saturday Night, you just went out and made some new 'friends'. It had worked for Dylan so far and he had no reason to change his mode of operations. So that was why he was strolling into the nearest nightclub at several hours past late, shooting easy smiles and friendly nods to anyone he caught eye contact with along the way to the bar.
One ordered scotch later, he leaned against the bar, looking around and feeling absolutely no hurry. it'd just be a matter of waiting until someone caught his eye as interesting. It wasn't very proactive but hey, he had absolutely nowhere better to be.

Macy, as most called her, had been working as a bouncer/entertainer at this particular bar for a while now. Tonight was her night as a bouncer. Most didn't expect a woman bouncer so when she had to do some 'bouncing' it usually shocked the MF who needed to be bounced to the point that he, if it was a male, didn't fight her on her removal of him, not always but more often than not. Now ladies on the other hand... well sometimes they tried to fight her, especially since they couldn't flirt with her, though once in a while some would try to flirt with her. They didn't get anywhere... Macy was a straight shooter. She did her rounds this night just like normal, looking like one of the customers. It was part of her rouse, but she was ALWAYS aware of what was going on around her and on the look out for the trouble makers and the ones that were too drunk for their own good. She took note of the guy that came in almost two hours before closing time, noting his easy 'smile and nod' greeting as he made eye contact with people. She chalked him up as someone to keep an eye on, for several reasons. Or at least that's what she told herself the times her eyes sought him out of the crowd. Dylan Quick

Ah now, this looked exactly like the kind of thing he'd been hoping to see. A pretty young woman who was both here alone and, more importantly, looking his way on occasion. "hey Mate. Send that lass over there a refill of whatever she's drinking from me yeah?" He said to the bartender, raising an eyebrow when that got said barman to start laughing.
'I'm not allowed to get our bouncer drunk but I'm sure she'd appreciate the offer.' the guy informed Dylan, still snickering as he attempted to clean a glass with a rag dirtier then it was.
Oh. well then. Dylan smirked as he played with that new information, a lady working as the bouncer to a place was far from expected, and those that did were usually the six foot blocks of muscle types not... this lady's body type. "curiouser and curiouser." he muttered and stood from his stool, bringing his glass with him as he walked, timing it perfectly well for the two of them to come face to face close to the dance floor.
Dylan gave her the warmest and most approachable smile he had, "Hey there, ya got some time free to dance with me?" he asked as way of an introduction, his easy confidence let him offer his hand to her before she had the chance to answer. The fact she was working meant it was unlikely she'd agree easily, but she didn't know he knew that, and things would be far more fun if it wasn't too easy.

Maisie raised an eyebrow as the man she'd been keeping an eye on approached her she'd seen the secret signal the bartender gave her to indicate another patron had thought she was a customer and tried to buy her a drink and she had to smile to herself. This man wasn't the first to try to pay for her drink or hit on her. She gave the bartender that subtle nod and a few moments later a waitress appeared with a sparkling water and told her it was from the gentleman in front of her. She picked up the cup, raised it toward him in salute, "Thanks for the drink. As for the dance," she paused, appeared to consider it then said, "Maybe another time." then she turned and walked off, to dance with another man. The other man she went to dance with was also a bouncer. This was something they'd worked out a long time ago, it was a ploy and something both did should either one be approached in this manner and they wanted to test that person. Especially if they sort of liked the other person. The theory was, if the one that asked them to dance was truly interested they wouldn't give up. Sometimes they gave up in that moment but would come back another time and see if they may have changed their mind. Dylan Quick

Dylan couldn't help laughing when the water was delivered, it made perfect sense but had been the last thing he thought anyone would be caught dead drinking in a place like this. Ah the joys of having to work, it sounded awful. "Well you're more then welcome pretty Lady-" anything else he had been planning to say, including introducing himself, was cut off when she turned him down and sauntered off without any real warning.
Now THAT was even more unexpected then her choice of drink. Dylan didn't even pretend he wasn't watching her as she walked away, so not only was she sexy as all hell but she had the confidence and attitude to match it? well shit. Suddenly every other woman in this place had become kinda boring in comparison. He watched her INSTANTLY go over to a man and begin to dance with him, now that was odd.
If she was working then she totally wasn't here with her boyfriend, and she wouldn't have said "maybe another time" if she WAS here with someone. or even if she wasn't available in general. So what the hell was...…. was this a game she was playing? He'd seen the tiny nods she'd given the bartender. so there WERE systems in place...and the guy was one of those wall of muscles he'd EXPECTED from a bouncer..... or was he overthinking this? Either way, he wanted the other time to be in the near future.
Nothing ventured nothing gained. The second she really did tell him to get lost, he'd leave her be, but something was making him confident she wouldn't.
So he took the closest seat available and leaned back, perfectly content to give her the occasional glance to see if she was still preoccupied. it took a few minutes before she wasn't any more, but once she was free he made sure that once again their paths were going to cross.
"So, if we wait around for your shift to end, then can I finally buy you something worth drinking?" Dylan said, again flashing her his most charming smile.

She had known he was watching her, she'd felt his eyes on her as she went over to her co-worker. But she tried not to let him know she knew he was watching. She danced a couple dances with the other bouncer, occasionally making note of where her drink buyer was. Macy noticed he hadn't taken his eyes from her and he hadn't left. Okay then. She couldn't keep the ruse up. She laughed and joked with her co-work then started making her rounds again, at one point making sure her rounds brought her back toward the man who flirted with her. She laughed, "You don't even know anything about me, not even my name and already trying to get somewhere." She sighed and glanced at her watch, "I get off work too late tonight to get drinks. I am closing tonight." she started to walk away then looked back, "By the way, my name is Maisie." she said with a grin as she sauntered away, fully aware of him. It was closing time and she needed to start ushering people out and put out the last call announcement. The regulars was used to seeing her on stage so they thought she was going to perform for them when she approached the mini stage and the whole place became silent with anticipation, "Good evening folks, or maybe I should say good morning. Sorry to disappoint you but.... LAST CALL!! Finish your drink and," for this part she sung a little bit, "Hit the road Jack." then she gave a little laugh, winked and walked off the stage. Maisie moved over to a particularly drunk man and took his drink from him, swigged it back with a little sigh and said, "That's all folks." the man made a swing at her and she caught his fist in her hand and twisted his arm behind his back, her face up close to his, "Now sir, is that anyway to treat a lady? Apologize before I throw your ass out." she said in a viscous, no nonsense tone that told just how quick she could get pissed and toss his butt out, her voice was a near growl. The man hissed in pain as she twisted his arm, she wasn't gentle, she had a very firm grip on his arm/wrist, her nails were also digging in since he'd decided to try to twist his arm out of her grip. If one looked close they wouldn't see normal nails they'd see claws. Also, only he could see it, her eyes had shifted color, a subtle warning to the man. Dylan Quick

Call it luck, practice, or a gift, but Dylan had always been good at rolling with a conversation, "I know you look like a lady worth learning about?" He answered with a casual smile, only feeling a little disheartened at the knowledge his offer wasn't going to work out. Wasn't it always typical to have stupid things like work get in the way of a potential good time? Although the fact she was saying no because of things she had no control over rather then any personal distaste was encouraging. And what was even more encouraging was the way she smiled when she introduced herself.
Well hot damn. He had her attention if nothing else. Dylan grinned right back and followed after her, keeping an easy pace to make sure he didn't come across as desperate. "Maisie huh?" He tested the name around on his tongue and nodded. "Only right you've a pretty sounding name to complete the set." He gave her a far more easy going smile, "I'm both; Dylan, and, pleased to meet ya."
He was going to keep talking, and of course keep up with the flattery, but she was heading on up to the stage... not that there was much of an 'up' nor was it that much a stage. He hung back just a little, watching her display a natural confidence as well as a surprisingly nice voice. even if it was only a couple words, he'd barely known her five minutes and already this lady seemed to be no end of surprises or talents. Dylan was quickly finding himself fascinated and feeling like he simply must try and get a fuller picture of what she was all about. And he was honest enough with himself to admit the fact she was stunning really didn't help either.
If he followed her around the club like a lost puppy, especially when working, he was going to start either annoying or creeping her out real fast, so Dylan just leant against a beam as Maisie went about trying to rustle the patrons out in something close to orderly fashion. It's not like it'd be anywhere close to interesting anyway. little more then the formality of 'keep on keepin' on the road' for- OR some jackass piece of shit could start getting violent!!
Dylan instantly moved forwards, glaring at the son of a bitch with the kind of anger that'd possibly cowered the target were they not having their own problems. What kind of coward would get violent on the staff just for saying something they didn't like! Especially when they'd..... failed.... to hit.... huh.
huuuuuuh.
Dylan stopped in his tracks, his righteous indignation grinding to a halt when he could see Maisie handling things. More then that she was DOMINATING the situation with the kind of vicious ease that left no illusion that she needed any kind of help. Well shit. "full of fuckin' surprises is the word." he muttered to himself out of shock alone. He stared at her face, the stern anger and refusal to back down...… She was strong. FAR stronger then he'd have ever guessed. And Dylan could only think that it wasn't fair. She couldn't just make herself MORE attractive like that out of nowhere!
Distracted as he was, Dylan still saw the change in her eyes and his heart skipped a beat. that. that wasn't normal. That was magic. What kind he couldn't be sure of yet but oohhhhhh boy did he suddenly want nothing more then to find out.

Seeing her eyes shift and hearing the tone of her voice the man wet himself and stammered out an apology, when she let him go he muttered under his breath, 'crazy ass bitch.' she grinned and snapped her teeth at him as if to bite him, "And don't you forget it you bastard." she said before turning, saluting Dylan then wandering off toward the back room where he couldn't follow. A few moments later she came back out, as she walked by Dylan she slipped a piece of paper into his pocket, waggled her fingers at him in a little wave and gave a subtle gesture to the bouncer she'd danced with earlier. At the signal he moved up beside Dylan, "Time to go sir." he said as he walked Dylan to the door and Macy turned to go behind the register to count the till and shut things down. She'd done her part now the other bouncer would take over the removal of the patrons. "You're lucky, mister. Mace doesn't give just anyone the attention she's giving you. I'd check your pockets when you get to your car." the bouncer said low enough only Dylan could hear. Note reads: ~Come tomorrow around ten PM. I get off work at eleven thirty. I'll be hungry.- Macy~Dylan Quick

In the time it took Dylan to pick his jaw off the floor and his eyes back in his head, everything had finished itself up without him. Which he didn't mind, but what the HELL was that? and why had it been so hot?!!? Dylan had barely figured out what to even say as a conversation starter after THAT when she was moving past him without a word. As much as that sucked it was understandable, people usually weren't feeling as up to flirting when having just got done messing around with that kind of stress but....
"yeah sure thing my man." Dylan told the male bouncer, no longer in any rush to poke a bouncer at this place even a little. "Do you have a switch that turns on the awe inspiringly scary mode too or?" He grinned, not expecting an answer and being even MORE taken aback by the answer he got. "...well shit. Guess i'll have to do my best to deserve luck like that." He patted the guy on the shoulder in parting and headed out the door without glancing back at Maisie, only raising a hand in a half-wave in her direction.
Once he was outside, he checked his pockets and..... "that little minx!" He muttered with incredibility, having no idea WHEN she pulled that off and being far too smart to question it. Ten O'clock huh? there'd have to be a dragon, three armies and an earthquake to make him late. feeling in a better mood then he'd had for weeks, Dylan hopped into his car and headed home.
-------------
The next evening, Dylan wandered into the bar at five to ten. He'd made more of an effort then yesterday, wearing his best jacket for one, and having given his hair more then three seconds of his fingers to get into shape. He'd spent the entire day trying to work out why he was told to show up an hour and a half BEFORE she was free, but then hell who was he to judge what worked for her schedule? the important part was he was here, and hopefully he'd spot her in the crowd sooner rather then later. He wandered over to the bar and ordered a white Russian as he waited, his eyes scanning the room.

The bartender grinned, "She's got you whipped man." he said with a laugh, "You're the only one she's let buy her a drink, even if it is a bubbler." bubbler being what they called the seltzer water that was designed to look like her drink of choice was a Smirnoff, which she did prefer but not while working, "She said whatever you wanted was on the house." the man informed Dylan as he set the drink in front of him and started wiping the counter down with a pristine white towel, "Oh and you might want to move closer to the front there." he gestured to where the 'stage' was, "Shows about to start."As he spoke the lights around the stage dimmed, and the crowd quieted down in expectation, murmurs rippled around the room. Soft music started, and then a voice started singing coming from the back rooms she'd disappeared into the night before and Macy emerged wearing a satin red dress trimmed in black and 'sex me up' red heels, it was a little steam punkish. Her voice was haunting, and the house band was a perfect accompaniment to her voice, one of the guys in the band playing the part of her male vocalist for the duet parts. Her eyes seek out and find Dylan, they flicker a little to the haunting 'something' inside her, it's such a quick flicker no one but he would see it. Dylan QuickSong Macy Sings

Dylan took the jibe with a good natured chuckle. "Ya telling me that you don't make good time when a pretty ladies expecting you?" He asked with a grin, feeling his pride grow another size at the knowledge no one had managed to catch Maisie's attention as well as he had. And the most fun part was he still wasn't 100% sure how he'd done it.
When he got the rest of the info he laughed all the harder and raised his glass to the bartender as a mini toast. "See? i'll take a little jumpin' when she says jump if it comes with free drinks and a show! You tell her I said thanks if you see her before I do yeah?" Dylan slid a few dollars across the bar as a tip before doing as he was encouraged, sipping his drink as he made his way over to grab the best view he could. It made sense really, a bouncer would be off on security before a performance. Oh hey, that was pretty thoughtful, knowing something was happening and getting him to come enjoy that while she worked.
Orrrrrrrrrrrr she could come out on stage looking like a bombshell.
about ten percent of his brain noted that from now on he wasn't allowed to make an assumption of what she's doing. since he was forever wrong. the REST of his brain was busy thinking up new and intriguing ways to express "oh damn she looks good." And that was BEFORE she started to sing...… hearing her go for real blew his ideas of before out the water. Dylan watched her perform in something akin to awe, amazed that she could be this talented, look THAT good, and 'only' be the bouncer. Then he remembered he wasn't the only person here and it was a decent sized crowd she was performing for.
When her eyes met his from across the room, Dylan's own eyes had darkened in ways he wasn't aware of, subconsciously feeling his animal side being pulled towards.... something. He raised his glass in toast to her, and shot her an easy wink. If she wanted to know what he thought it'd be all over his face that he was impressed.

The look on Dylan's face sent a shiver over her, and made her inwardly cheer, she'd succeeded in shocking him, it was clear on his face, and then his eyes darkened and she knew her suspicions were correct, he was one of her kind. At the bar the bartender smirked, ~oh if only he knew what he was in for if his boss chose this guy over any other who'd ever flirted with her.~ the bartender thought to himself as he shook his head at the way the two looked at each other. Almost all of the employees knew about her, they knew she was a shifter, knew she was their boss and knew she was also posing as an employee. Only the employees that had been there from the time Macy's family had bought it knew the secrets, and they were all just as protective of her as she was of them. Bert, the bar manager and bartender, hoped that she was making the right choice choosing this man who now sat watching her every move. Bert, looked at her as a big brother would his sister, though Macy just might be older than him. On stage Macy watched how Dylan tracked her and had to smile, her every instinct was right and was screaming at her to go to him and make it official and it took a moment to pull herself back to the present as the song she'd chosen to speak to Dylan had made it seem like it was just the two of them in the room, until she heard the wolf whistles of the other patrons. She sung two more songs, the last one she chose was With or Without You. When her song was done she bowed, smiled at her audience and waved at them, "Have a great night, folks. Remember, don't drink and drive. If you need a ride we'll call a taxi for you. Thank you and Good Night."As Macy exited the stage the bouncer that walked Dylan out the night before came up beside him, "Would you like to go backstage?" he asked, ready to show Dylan back to the 'dressing room' of sorts that Macy used to get ready for the performances. She'd told him to go ask and escort Dylan back there if he wanted to. "By the way, I am Brutus." he shrugged, It's a nickname, don't make a deal of it." he warned after the introduction, figuring if things went the way it looked like it was going he may as well introduce himself. They would have to get to know them eventually. Dylan Quick

It was a funny feeling, hearing a song he'd never much cared for before suddenly being something he wanted burned on a CD so it could be on constant repeat in his car. He blinked as he realised what he was thinking man oh man he had it BAD didn't he? But he couldn't help it, Dylan just felt drawn to her in ways he couldn't explain. the image of her had been popping into his mind without warning the entire time since he'd left the bar last night, and now he could look at her in the flesh again he was having an impossible job remembering why he'd do anything else.
The way she looked at him as she sang gave him a pretty good idea that she was thinking something at least similar and that lit a fire inside of him that he couldn't put out. When she was done, Dylan was the first one to applaud, heavy claps breaking a little of the spell she'd put over him but not by much. Not enough that he even realised what was being said for the first few seconds after the other Bouncer approached him. mentally rewinding time to try and get it straight in his head, Dylan grinned at the question. "If I ever say no to a question like that, call the military because the body snatchers are invading." It wasn't even that witty a reply but it wasn't Dylan's fault since his brain had gone RIGHT back to malfunctioning the second it'd processed the question. He easily fell in to follow after the bouncer (Brutus it turned out) And Dylan wasn't even able to get out a comment before the explanation was given. Oh well, perhaps some time after they knew each other better. "Nice to meet you Man, i'm Dylan. And thanks for the help by the by, it's nice to know her co-workers are the decent sort."
Showing him which room was which wasn't exactly much help, but Dylan liked people to like him so was in the habit of taking opportunities for some easy niceness. "Hey, you know her better then me. Any quick tips? things she likes? things she hates?" Even something as simple as her fave food would be a boost to any future success he'd have making Maisie like him, so why not test the waters?

Brutus grinned at the military comment, nodding at the mention of the staff being decent, 'The boss wouldn't have it any other way.' he said with a serious tone. Thinking seriously on the last question he turned in front of the door to Maisie's office/dressing room and stood blocking the way to give Dylan some advice, 'Don't ever underestimate her, she's more than what she let's the public see. She's tough as nails but she does have a soft side. Play your cards right and you may get to see it. Oh and one more thing, she's loved, by everyone of us. You cross her, you cross us. Just sayin.' With that Brutus gestured to her door, then walked off. --------------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, in her area, Macy had slipped out of the stage dress and into some casual dress pants, button down white silk blouse and a dress jacket. She was just slipping on a pair of black pumps when she heard voices outside her door, her keen hearing picked up Brutus's warning tone and words and she smiled to her self and swiped a single tear away quickly. "Come on in, Dylan." she called out as she reached back to pull her hair into a loose ponytail at the nape of her neck. Dylan Quick

It was easy to nod along with what he was told, even if it wasn't exactly what he was hoping for. In fact this kind of advice was probably more useful then the 'her favourite type of flowers or present' or whatever else he'd actually been asking after. "Heh. If I ever did underestimate her, that went out the window and off a cliff the second I watched her deal with that drunken jackass." Really he had been working on a gut instinct that Maisie was different, special, almost from the moment they'd met but there was no way to make saying that sound natural. Dylan hesitated when Brutus said surprisingly heartfelt words, taking him off guard for a moment.
"Hey. Listen, I promise you I couldn't possibly be further from wanting to hurt her." He said seriously, before giving the guy a pat on the shoulder as he started to move away. "if I do, you can kill whatever's left of me after Maisie kicks my ass into the dirt. Good deal?" Dylan grinned wide and headed into the room without waiting for an answer when he heard the Lady of the hour's voice.
Dylan took the office room in with easy eyes, it being more or less what he had expected to find, and was far more focused when he saw Maisie standing there. It was a shame she'd changed, that dress had looked amazing on her and Dylan resolved to let her know as much when the opportunity arose. He smiled at her warmly and leaned against a wall near her, his hands casually in his pockets. "that is one hell of a performance you put on." He said as a greeting, meaning every word. "You've got the best voice I can remember hearing in person, since..... Man since I saw Metallica live and that was a fair few years back." Dylan had long since learned that opening with flattery was as good a way to start a conversation as any. especially when you wanted them to like you.
