A six foot four man who was built like a brick shed, and probably even tougher then that, walked down the isle of the local shopping center. in one arm he carried an eightpack of beer cans, as well as a bag of other shopping. In his other arm, resting on his shoulder and seeming to give him no trouble to carry, was a plastic princess castle, half the size of his torso in neon pink and emblazoned with a smiling chibi-unicorn.
if that was something most men would be embarrassed to be seen dead with, no one had ever dared bring up to Jack, and he didn't care either way, wondering his way to the food court with the kind of casual stroll that showed off utter ease and confidence in himself. As he got there he smoothly joined the closest line to a hotdog stand, and with a little care was able to aquire lunch and pay without having to put anything down. The place was as busy as could be expected on a nice sataday as today so he wasn't disappointed to see there were basically zero empty tables left. Jack shrugged once (causing the entire castle to tilt worryingly for a moment) before strolling over to the nearest table that had a seat empty and flashing his most warm smile. "Hey, don't mean to be an ass but no chance that seat's open is there?"

Luna needed a break, a long day of dealing with annoying people was enough to cause her stress. She was a small woman, standing at only five feet and three inches, people underestimated her a lot more than she cared to admit. For some reason she hadn't considered moving to a new place would cause such a headache but it had. Luna walked up to the hotdog stand, her long bubblegum colored hair shifted as she moved, happy that food would provide the relief she needed to calm herself.
Luckily she had found an empty seat, for a moment she contemplated going home. Sighing to herself she knew if she went home she'd have to unpack. The dreaded task. Luna took a bite of her hotdog, her cheek puffing as she chewed, she didn't care if others saw her stuffing her face. What's the worst that could happen they laugh? As she chewed a shadow beside the empty set next to her caught her attention. Her Chocolate brown eyes lifted to a tall man, her eyes resting on the giant pink castle in his arms and then his face as he spoke.
Her cheek was puffed from the food she chewed, she looked like a chipmunk. Luna lifted her hand to her mouth as she swallowed her food, "It's open, you're fine." Her voice matched her small frame and she winced a bit as the food traveled down her throat.

"Ah, well thank you kindly" Jack said, making sure to put the days shopping down under the table where it wouldn't get damaged before sitting down and tearing a bite out of his own hotdog. As soon as he had chewed and swallowed he sighed in contentment. "I swear, 3 hours wondering around looking for that kind of bulky nonsense is worth it when some decent food's at the end of it." Jack said, as much to himself as the lady opposite as he realised not everyone was interested in a conversation with a random stranger.
The fact he had made her chew so much so quickly didn't make him think less of her, but only feel bad himself for interrupting like that and the next time heasked a question he waited to make sure she wasn't in the middle of eating before he said anything. "is it just me or has this place only been getting more and more crowded? Did new stores open and I just didn't notice or what?"

"No problem." Luna gave a small, if not awkward smile and went back to her own food. She couldn't help but glance at him as he sat, not out of anything but him being in her line of sight. When he spoke Luna had taken a sip of her soda, she chewed on the straw for a moment and chuckled a bit. "I'll say." She mumbled the words, she wasn't sure if he was talking to her or just in general.
She kept eating, as she swallowed what was left of the fries she stuffed in her mouth he spoke again. She turned her head and took a sip on her drink leaning on her hand, the sleeve of her jacket falling showing the beginning of a tattoo that graced her arm. Luna held the cups straw to her lips as she thought, "Not sure, I just moved here not too long ago. But, it's definitely packed more compared to the last time I came. Maybe schools out or something?" She laughed a bit and offered a smile once more.

Jack grinned and shook his head. "Nahhh that ain't it either." Well if there was no easy answer then he gave up on thinking of one entirely and just shook his head. "Well either they'll get around to enlarging the damn thing AGAIN, or they'll learn to live with the complaints. Either or, probably both." there was a moment of companionable silence before Jack hooked onto the earlier bit of what was said.
"oh yeah? well then welcome aboard! nice to see you and good to have ya." He said with a honest laugh. "There ain't much to dislike 'round these parts so I'm thinking you should find yourself fitting in just fine once you get your bearings." Jack added, trying to be both reassuring and welcoming, after all there wasn't quite as many new faces as was ideal for a slowly growing town like this. "i'm Jack by the by." was a late addition as it occurred to him only so much time should pass in a conversation before basic politeness like introductions were expected.

Luna rose her brow when he disagreed, taking the moment to take a sip of her drink. She nodded in agreement swallowing the bubbly liquid happily. It was the first time since she moved that she talked to a person, other than the shop attendees to buy food and her boss when she got hired. During the silence, she finished her hot dog before he spoke again. Luna chewed her food her cheeks full again as he welcomed her, she took her time before swallowing. "Ah thank you, I'm Luna. Nice to meet you, Jack." Her tongue darted out to lick the sauce from the side of her mouth, her hand lifting as her finger brushed away the moisture. "So far the town has been great."

Jack leaned back in his chair and nodded approvingly, "Nice to meet you too Luna, and even nicer to hear that." He had always been the type to take great pride in his home town and moments like this were rewarding in their vindication on that belief. He leaned down to rummage blindly in one of his bags, making a quiet 'ah-ha!' when he found the bottle of water he'd left. jack cracked it open and downed about half of it within a few seconds. "I might be biased, but there's nowhere that really compares. Can I ask where you're from originally?"
Not that he was expecting a truly unique answer, but it was a pretty good icebreaking question as things went. "'Cause I've never lived a day of my life outside this place. Staying settled down seems a dying concept nowadays, more's the pity."

Luna chuckled as he shuffled through his bag, he was amusing. It was nice to talk to someone other than her pet frog. "Ah, I'm from France. Though my accent is mostly gone now." Luna smiled and moved her wrist to jostle the soda in her cup. "I'm hoping to call this place my new home. So far it's great." Placing her cup on the table she drummed her fingers lightly. "It's a lot different from France, but I like the feeling this place gives off." Luna leaned on her hand again and stared at him.

Jack let out a pleased laugh at the info "Aye? France, man I haven't been there since, damn, since I was a tiny brat with my parents! Time friggin flies, but what a great chunk of the world! Remember not wantin' to go home but then," he paused and shrugged, "kids man. They're always gonna be like that with holidays." Having slightly defeated his own original point, Jack just decided to let that train of thought go for the moment. "yeahhhh everyone I ever met who's new to America instantly seems to see the differences more then anything. But that's part of the charm! Hell if you're likin' it then that just proves me right." OF course this town wasn't even normal by USA standards but no reason to scare the girl.
"I mean it as a compliment, but for a French lady your English is perfect. wouldn't have guessed in a thousand years you weren't from 'round here." He grinned, "though i'd probably be dead before I got that long into guessing so... eh. Either way."

Luna smiled as he laughed, he was amusing, it was different from the obnoxious french guys she knew at home. She listened to him intently, casually eating what was left of her food. Luna gave a small chuckle at his enthusiasm, "Kids are usually like that, my nephews were always like that when they came to visit. But the differences are great, a lot different than I'm used to but no harm in adjusting. I think unpacking is the only thing about moving, well that and job searching." Luna sighed frowning a bit, she had found a job but someone of her skills could surely get a better one.
When he complimented her she sat up, lifting her cheek off her palm. "Ah yes, my accent. It's been gone so long. My father was from the states so I suppose I took after him...And your accent is pleasant, I mean it in a good way. Its very comforting."

Jack winced sympathetically at her downsides and nodded along with her as he ate, he swallowed his mouthful before speaking. "Yeahhh i hear that. Nothing worse then a daunting task that is actively stopping you from relaxing until its done with i swear." he agreed with an annoyance. "i'd offer to put a good word for you at my place, but unless you're a mechanic i don't think it'd do much to solve anytihn'." he added with an apologetic smile, before pausing. "Are ya? because that'd be a hell of convenient coincidence wouldn't it?"
Comforting wasn't a word Jack was used to, being his size and his usual volume meant more often then not it was more 'intimidating' or 'scary' he got given. "well thank ya most kindly. I guess my disposition's finally paying off." He joked. "And that makes sense too. After all family always tends to shine through in the end"

Luna sipped her soda as he spoke, chuckling at his explination of packing. When he said he'd had offered her a job she rubbed her neck. "Then it must be one hell of a coincidence." She smiled, " I am, went to school and everything. My sister says things like this are fate. Despite how I look, I'm pretty handy with tools." She pointed to herself before taking another sip of her drink. It really was one hell of a coincidence, if she could work her trade she'd take that any day over serving food to pervy men any day.
"Ah yes, my mum told me something like that once." She brushed a few stray strands of pink hair behind her ear. He was like a giant teddy bear, the thought caused her to chuckle to herself before she stretched.

Jack stopped with a French fry hovering in front of his mouth at the revelation she really was in the same field as him. "That..... is fate mocking me is what it is!" he said with a barking laugh, slapping his knee with mirth. What a strange, small, world it was for things to work out that well. "Well shoot. i'm happy to say i've no choice but put my money where my mouth is." he said, still chuckling as he pulled out his wallet to dig out a business card for a place called 'the Cog Dragon Garage' and slide it across the table towards her. "Address is on there, if you really do have the skills then you're hired." Jack said with a grin, as if job interviews were as simple as that. Which for Jack they certianly were, if they could do their job and he got a sense he'd get along with them, nothing else mattered.
"then your Ma' must be as smart a cookie as her daughter." Jack offered, figuring that despite how many people stereotyped the job, stupid people didn't get anywhere fixing up machines.

Luna watched at he laughed, the smile on her face only grew and she used the back of her hand to cover her mouth as she snickered. "I suppose it is then." She leaned back on her hand and watched him curiously as he reached into his pocket, when he slid the business card across the table to her she lifted her face from her hand and stared at it with excitement. "R-really?!" She took the card in her hand smiling wide before looking up at him, the excitement was reflected in her brown eyes. "Wow this is great! You don't know how hard it's been finding a job here, the last shop i tried they just laughed at me." Luna was happy that he wasn't juding her just by her small apperance, if not a little surprised it was this easy. "Say what day can I come, I'd be happy to bring my resume and uh an interview type thing."

Jack felt the mix of good feelings and a hint of ego that comes with doing a good deed as he saw the excitement on Luna's face and knew he'd done good. "yeah sure thing." he said easily, drifting his mind across what he could remember of works schedule. "Tell ya what, phone Friday morning and as long as nothing major's got itself booked in by then we'll tell ya what time to make it in for." He said finally.
There was no point insisting he'd never bothered with actual interviews and would just want her to prove herself when she got there. it could be something resembling a fun surprise. As he spoke, Jack properly took in that bit about Luna being laughed at and scowled. "Was it those morons attached to the junkyard down the west end that laughed?" he asked, assuming his least favorite competition was to blame just because he didn't like them. "because you'll have dodged a bullet not working for THOSE useless prats."
